This type of survey is normally not required on a newer property, but
could prove useful if you intended to carry out structural alterations
or extensions. It is however a must on an older property if you want peace
of mind when considering buying your new home, but it is entirely down
to you to decide whether to commission it or not. As this will be
a detailed analysis of the property in question it will require the consent
of the owner before the survey is completed. On completion of the report
discuss in detail the findings with the surveyor.
It is recommended, particularly when you are spending additional money for this survey to ensure that the surveyor is a member of a
professional body and holds indemnity insurance.
